Patient Preparation:

  • Aseptic techniques must be used in obtaining and transporting specimen.

Specimen Type:

  • Rectal, vaginal, eye, and throat swab in a Copan eSwab

  • Fluids in a sterile container

Minimum Volume:

  • eSwab: entire collection
  • Fluid: 0.5mL

Reasons for Rejection:

  • Dry swab, in a non-sterile container, or does not meet collection, storage, or transport requirements.

Stability

Ambient: 24 hours (Preferred)

Refrigerated: 24 hours
